Ahh summer time. Great time of the year. One problem. No Blazers! I have been thinking about the future of the team and it looks great. Here is the roster as of today:
PG:Jerryd Bayless/ Steve Blake/ Rudy Fernandez
SG: Brandon Roy/ Von Wafer
SF: Travis Outlaw/ Martell Webster
PF: Lamarcus Aldridge/ Ike Diogu/ Nicolas Batum
C: Greg Oden/ Channing Frye/ Raef Lafrentz
This looks like a great dynasty in a couple of years. What this team needs right now is a leader. The average age for this starting five is 25 years old! The Blazers should make an offer for Chauncey Billups. The Blazers can offer:
Raef La Frentz
Martell Webster
FOR
Billups
This trade will bring a proven leader to the team and a mentor to Bayless. The new Roster would look like this:
PG:Chauncey Billups/ Jerryd Bayless/ Steve Blake/ Rudy Fernandez
SG: Brandon Roy/ Von Wafer
SF: Travis Outlaw/xxxxx
PF: Lamarcus Aldridge/ Ike Diogu/ Nicolas Batum
C: Greg Oden/ Channing Frye
That team lacks SF depth. They can make a pitch for James Posey or trade Steve Blake and Rudy fernandez for Shawn Williams, from the Pacers.
PG:Chauncey Billups/ Jerryd Bayless
SG: Brandon Roy/ Von Wafer
SF: Travis Outlaw/ Shawne Williams
PF: Lamarcus Aldridge/ Ike Diogu/ Nicolas Batum
C: Greg Oden/ Channing Frye
That looks like a team that can contend rapidly. With teams like the Spurs, Suns and Mavs declining, the window of opportunity for the Blazers is only opening. In 3 years, here's how the Western Conference Standings would look like:
1. Blazers
Roy, Aldridge, Oden, and Bayless. Enough said? Yes!
2. Lakers
The Lakes will still be on top of the West if they keep Bynum and their starting lineup.
3. Hornets
Chris Paul just inked an extension and Chandler is 25. David West looks pretty hungry and will look to improve.
4. Sonics
The Sonics will have a developed Kevin Durant and Jeff Green to go with Robert Swift and Westbrook. Look for this team to finish around 4 or 5.
5. Grizzlies
The Grizzlies have a very bright future as well. Mayo, Gay, Conley jr, Marc Gasol will look pretty dangerous in a couple of years.
6. Minnesota
Minnesota will have a Al Jefferson- Kevin Love duo downlow.
7. Jazz
The Jazz will probably ink D-Will to an extension and Brewer will look to stay with this team. A lineup of Williams/Brewer/AK/Boozer/OKur will still be around.
8. Warriors
I chose the Warriors because they just signed Magette and Monta Ellis is their future. He averaged 19 PPG playing with Baron Davis. Imagine how many he will score without him
